Civil Engineering

About the Civil Engineering

Civil engineers are supposed to plan, design, develop, build, manage, rehabilitate and operate the physical elements of the human habitat. Almost every aspect of daily life is impacted by projects conceived, designed and constructed by civil engineers. Civil Engineering, like all other fields, is comprised of many sub disciplines. Primary areas of concentration include transportation, geotechnical, environmental, structural engineering, and construction engineering and management

HoD’s Desk

Construction industry is currently growing with latest technologies and now there is a huge demand for civil engineers for satisfying the demand of infrastructural development. Civil engineers will always be needed to maintain and repair existing facilities and structures and to construct new ones. The service of civil engineers is inevitable in all the government department in the modern race. Not only in government department but also in private and public sector industries, research and educational institutions etc. This college provides excellent quality education and working condition. The department aims to mould the students into excellent engineering professionals by exposing them to different aspect of civil engineering. Practical training and survey camp are given to the students to improve their practical skills. The department has well equipped laboratories to perform experiments and endeavor to provide better technical facilities in days to come. Our focus is on excellence teaching and training the students with emphasis to well equip them for challenges and opportunities. It gives immense pleasure to lead the Department of Civil Engineering. Infrastructure / Facilities

Building Material & CONCRETE Lab
Building material Laboratory deals with common element which all participants in the construction. This lab deals with building materials testing. Cement testing, aggregate test, brick test, bulking of sand etc. and Concrete lab provides facilities for testing various building construction materials, mortar, and concrete in fresh and hardened state. It includes test for compressive strength, flexural strength, fineness and mix design of concrete etc. Thus a hand on exposure to these tests helps the students to craft themselves to be a civil engineer with better confidence and assessment skills.

SURVEYING Lab and Geoinformatics Lab
Surveying lab  and Geoinformatics Lab expose student to the levelling, contouring, chaining, traversing ,tacheometry with the help of levels, chains ,theodolites, total stations,G PS and also measurement of angles and linear measurements which contribute in vital part of project planning and construction  .

Transportation Engineering Lab- The labs are used for research and teaching in the fields of rigid and flexible pavements and testing pavements materials. Transportation Engineering Lab deals with testing of road construction materials. Different tests includes such as aggregate testing, crushing value determination, abrasion value of aggregate, shape test ,flakiness index, specific gravity test and water absorption & stripping test, Bitumen Penetration Test . Softening Test, Viscosity Test, Flash and Fire Point Test, Ductility Test .

Structure Engineering Lab

Structural engg. Lab deals with material behavior under loads. It focuses on the determination of stress and strain distributions the computation of deformations, deflections and internal forces or stresses within structures, either for design or for performance evaluation of existing structures onducting experiments is Elastic properties of deflected beam apparatus, Elastically coupled beam apparatus ,Apparatus for verification of Clarks Maxwell reciprocal theorem, Three hinged arch apparatus, Column and Strut apparatus.

 Environmental Engineering Lab

Environmental Engineering laboratory facilitate our students to carry out research and laboratory work . The laboratory is equipped with all the instruments for air quality, water quality and wastewater analysis, students can perform various experiments on water, noise and air by calculating the pollution load, BOD, COD etc. The Lab contains all the latest equipment’s.

Computer Aided Design Lab

Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer systems to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of design. This lab students to model the building in 2D and 3D with the help of AUTO-CAD and also to analysis it by using software like staad pro etc.

Geotechnical Engineering and soil foundation lab

Geotechnical lab and soil foundation is well equipped to perform all the experiment like shear strength, compaction and permeability characteristics of soils , bearing capacity of soil using Standard Penetration Test (SPT), plate load test and UCC test apparatus, compaction test, field density test.

Workshop/Guestlectures/Industrial Visit

Industrial visit is a vital part of engineering courses. It help Bridge gap between classroom and real world. It is considered as a part of Departmental curriculum, mainly seen in engineering courses. Objective of industrial visit is to provide students an insight regarding internal working of companies. We know, theoretical knowledge is not enough for making a good professional career. With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit provides student a practical perspective on the world of work. It provides students with an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. It gives them exposure to current work practices as opposed to possibly theoretical knowledge being taught at Departmental. Industrial visits provide an excellent opportunity to interact with industries and know more about industrial environment. Industrial visit helps to combine theoretical knowledge with industrial knowledge.
